Yoichiro Ishihara is the Resident Representative / Senior Country Economist for Bhutan in the World Bank starting in June 2016 . Yoichiro has been working as the country economist for Indonesia (2001-07), Afghanistan (2007-10) and Rwanda (2013-16). During his stays in these countries, Yoichiro led both analytical works and operations. Yoichiro also worked in the headquarters on aid effectiveness and results management. Before joining the World Bank, Yoichiro was an economic advisor for the Japanese embassy in Indonesia and worked for a commercial bank in Japan. He holds MSc in development studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of University of London and a PhD degree in development economics from the Graduate School of International Development of Nagoya University in Japan.
